What exactly characterizes circus art, what significance does it have and what could even be an attempt to define circus art? In the documentary "Thinking Circus", various European circus artists give their answers to these questions. Arne Mannott organizes this multitude of voices into a film that reports on the artistic potential of different circus styles through the generations. Artists from contemporary circus meet their classical colleagues. Not only do different approaches to this art form become clear, but above all, shared basic ideas about circus also emerge. Solidarity, the sharing and passing on of knowledge and the value of community in the circus experience a new appreciation.
